Since the early 1980’s Steve Heimbecker has created arts works for manifestation in multi-channel sound systems, multi-channel data representation, audio performance, installation, large-scale sculpture, video montage, and fine arts in general. He often uses digital media systems of his own design and construction.  He lives and works in the Eastern Townships of Québec, or in situ during various artist residencies or commissions.

Conceptually Heimbecker’s work is based upon his fascination with the architecture of space and the measurement of time within space including his natural inclination toward cross-modal representation. Combined with the kinetic energy of cascading wave patterns or rhizomatic philosophy (Deleuze and Guattari) “which allows for multiple, non-hierarchical entry and exit points in data representation and interpretation” as catalysts, Heimbecker creates immersive audio visual installations and compositions that hold layers of information (visual, sculptural, sonic, digital) to be peeled away by the observer to form diverse, formal, and far reaching associations that apprehends multiplicity.

“Complexity is the multiplicity of simplicity” – Steve Heimbecker – 1999
